Wednesday's Bingo ~ Every Wednesday ~ Noon ~ McHenry VFW 3002 W. IL Route 120, McHenry ~ GiGi's Playhouse bingo event continues to help raise awareness and funds for people with Down syndrome and their families. The facilities provide FREE programs that include pre-natal diagnosis support and resources, physical development in babies and toddlers, social programs for all ages, literacy and math tutoring, in addition to community education and awareness activities. Gigi's Playhouse has multiple locations in the United States and Mexico, with two new facilities opening in October in Atlanta and the Quad Cities. Feb. 11 The Bike Haven is hosting a fun filled day of riding at Rays MTB, 8365 North 76th Street in Milwaukee, WI. This is a fun, no attitude, indoor bicycle park made by riders for riders! Equipped with Novice tracks and Expert tracks; there is a ride for everyone!! The Bike Haven will be providing a "Blackbox Rental" (VIP room) for all Bike Haven members/attendees for the entire day. There will be food and drinks provided for all to enjoy!

Feb. 20 & 22 The Shah Center of McHenry County College is accepting registrations for the OSHA 10-Hour for Construction Industry class facilitated by Debra Addante, president of Innovative Risk Management LLC. This course is targeted for employers committed to workplace safety and compliance. The 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program is intended to provide an entry level construction worker's general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards at a construction site. Feb. 25 GiGi's Playhouse, Down Syndrome Awareness Centers, have taken celebration to a whole new level! GiGi's Playhouses in ten cities, four states, and two countries will come together on February 25, to celebrate Down syndrome with Galas in 10 different venues across the country!! Atlanta, Chicago, Des Moines, New York, Quad Cities, McHenry, Sioux City, Rockford, and Queretaro, Mexico, will be linked together via satellite to spread an international message of acceptance and inspiration for individuals with Down syndrome. This national movement for awareness of Down syndrome began in 2003 when the first GiGi's Playhouse was started in Hoffman Estates Illinois. Since then 11 have opened across the Midwest and New York, Atlanta and Mexico are scheduled to open this spring. Apr. 3-4 Local residents called to participate in cancer prevention study ~ McHenry County residents have an unprecedented opportunity to participate in a historic study that has the potential to change the face of cancer for future generations. Centegra Health System and the American Cancer Society are partnering to recruit men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). This study will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. Centegra is the first health system in Illinois to be invited to partner with the American Cancer Society for this study. Centegra hopes to recruit more than 600 participants in McHenry County. Apr. 15 MCHENRY COUNTY HUMAN RACE 5K Walk/Run, Saturday, April 15 in McHenry Corporate Park During National Volunteer Week, Not-For-Profit Resources, Inc. will host its second “Human Race”. The Human Race is a 5K walk/run supporting charities serving McHenry County. Walkers and runners can designate which organization receives a portion of the race registration. They can also fundraise and choose which registered 501(c)3 will receives the funds they raise. The 5K will take place at 9:00 a.m. in McHenry’s industrial park on Prime Parkway. This year’s prizes total $1100. They include a $500 McHenry County Community Foundation award to the top fundraising organization and a $250 to fundraiser’s organization of choice. May 19 Home of the Sparrow 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration – Saturday, May 19, 2012 The event will be held at the magnificent Sanfilippo Estate “Place de la Musique” in Barrington. The “Place de la Musique” is known worldwide for its magnificent collections of beautifully restored antique music machines, phonographs, arcade and gambling machines, chandeliers, lamps, art glass, the World’s largest restored theater pipe organ and the most spectacular European salon carousel in existence.
